Free Aung San Suu Kyi!
Return Power to People!
By Maung Chan (Burma's Chinese)
On the June 19, the occasion of the birthday of our beloved leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the Taiwan Labour Front, the Taiwan Association for Human Rights, the Women Awakening Foundation, the Peacetime Foundation of Taiwan etc , co-held a great demonstration meeting and press conference in Taiwan.
They prayed first for our national heroine under the slogan of "Long live Aung San Suu Kyi".
Then they demanded the Burma's military government:
"Free Aung San Suu Kyi!"
"Give Power Back to People!"
In their press conference, prof. Liao Fu Te, the council-member of Taiwan Association for Human Rights Promotion , pointed out,
"We Taiwanese, , when demanding and struggling, as a matter of life and death for democracy under Chiang's dictatorship, had been supported morally by the world's organisations of international human rights and friendships".
"Now we Tanwanese are enjoying freedom, human rights and democracy . It is our justice, morality and duty to support Aung San Suu Kyi and the Burmese people's struggle for democracy, especially now the UN Human Right Committee has been transformed to the UN Human Rights Council.".
The demontrating Tanwanese hanged Aung San Suu Kyi's pictures and quotations on the wall, such as
"The crux of the problems is not violence, but hatress!",
"Truth, Justice and Compassion are the only fortress against violence and dictatorship",
"Please use your freedom to promote our freedom"
All these quotations show clearly Aung San Suu Kyi's great wistom, great corage and loving peace.
Madam Zeng Zhao-Yuan, General Secretary of the Women Awekening Fundation, pointed out that in the countries under civil war and dictatorship, the most injured and suffering people are women and children.
"The Burmese generals permit their soldiers to kill, burn, plunder and rape the ethnic people, the Burmese army uses children as soldiers………All these are human rights violation!".
"Aung San Suu Kyi, as an Asian heroine, loves her country, love her people, fight bravely by means of non-violence......All these are a good example to us!" she said.
Zhang Yu-Xin, Social-Science postgraduate of the Qing-Hua University said ,
"We young generation are suffering no more from the military dictatorship, but we are concerned about the world's social problems and the international affairs--it is our good morality and justice!".
He pointed out, " we find how similar is the Taiwan's 1980-90 student movement when compared with the 1989 student movement in Burma".
Students from Burma also bravely attended the demonstration although it will bring them and their families in Burma countless disadvantages and unforeseen danger .
On behalf of the Burma's Chinese, these students from Burma, among whom Mr. Yang Yong-Zhu, Chairman of the New Media Burma News Website, thanked all Taiwan organisations supporting their national heroine Aung San Suu Kyi and their people's democratic struggles.
These students from Burma sang famous songs for their national heroine, like "Imagine" etc.
They sang also their self-composed songs for their beloved leader and people , such as "Walk On", "Freedom From Fear" etc.
They sadly sang, too, "Abandoned", "Lost in Identity" etc-- those songs describing the Burma's Chinese being oppressed and discriminated as the helpless minority in Burma, losing home and destination.
The Meeting Committee translated its Chinese press communique into English and sent to the UN Human Rights Committee, the EU Parliament, the Asean and other international organisations.
All the attending organisations are agreed with great pleasure to fix this very day, the June 19, as "the Burma's Democracy Day", and decided to hold continuously every year until Aung San Suu Kyi is free.
