(Nov. 24, 2005)About two weeks ago, Mr. Ren Bumei criticized the article "China's New Revoluntion" published by Time on June 20, 2005. Mr. Ren is a famous dissident writer from China. Dear Editors:
I am a Chinese and I would like to express our different view of points on behalf those Chinese readers with the same ideas about your series articles titled "CHINA'S NEW REVOLUTION". We think that the pictures given by this articles is only partial, may be due to your reporters depends on mainly from Beijing's official information, which lead to their lack of understanding about the overall real situation in China.
Traditionally, there is always a problem exist in the western Chinese study and western media about China, it is always been influenced by Chinese government's point of view. These phenomena exist during Great Leap Forward and Culture Revolution.
The agree with or support the fable story of Chinese Erupt and stability from Communist Propaganda Department ,not only will encourage Beijing dictatorship government's pride attitude in both internal and international affairs ,but it is injustice for those our Chinese people living both at economic difficult and politic disasters.
This kind of actions is an hypocrisy for an injustice government system, and a humble and rebuke for all those Chinese whom is resisting this injustice, and tortured by this injustice.
1. Is it true there is a China's New Revolution?
Your fabricated story of China's New Revolution tell a story of a 20 years old peasant girl Liu Li working at an Garment workshop for America Market, this lucky girl's monthly income is USD120. I believe that this author did not noticed some of our brave Chinese journalist's report on the children workers employed usually by some of our mainland China's factories, and workers as Liu Li's lack of basic welfare and protection from Worker's Union. And most important of all, Liu Li is not sample of the fortune of our rural girls in China.
May 21, 2003, Liu ShouJia (pronunciation), a senior teacher from economy department of BRUNEIR (pronunciation), University of UK published a comment on BBC website. She quoted an investigation by a sociologist from Chinese Science Academy, about the prostitution report in China. It stated mainly that prostitution comes from 3 groups of Chinese women: first, those rural girl works at factories in the cities, this occupied the majority of Chinese prostitution. It was said, about half of about 100 new rural girl workers from Sichuan Provinces at a workshop in Dongguan, Guangdong Province choice to be prostitution within 2 years. The second group was cheated by some Prostitution organization. But the unfortunate fate of those rural girls is due to the poor and injustice of this society. They payment get by those girls at factories is mostly 600 -700 RMB Yuan (about USD75 -100), just enough for food and some expenditure, and usually they will remit some RMB200 to their family. Obviously, this author said, that rural girl's hard work with their life for MADE IN CHINA, but ends up with no difference with those people at cities under government welfare system coverage, basically belong to the same group in China: the low income or poor. How much prostitution is there in China? This article given us reference information: the GDP created by prostitution industry is in some hundred billion RMB Yuan every year. Another data is that this sexual transaction cost is from RMB10 to 1,000 (USD1.5 to USD 125).
Other miserable fate of rural girl is to been cheated and sold. Chinese government media China News Agency reported on Octorber, 10, 2000, that from April to October, 2000, at least 110,000 kidnapped women and 13,000 children was rescued. And on December 12, 2003, Nan fang Municipal Daily, an official newspaper at Guangzhou, reported that there is over 50,000 abandoned infants were adopted by foreign family, this figure is increasing. An Erupt China like this is a shame.
Behind of Liu Li's case, it is the serious unemployment problem in China. There are scholar reported that the total unemployment rate in China is 21.1%, and within this figure, surplus labor from rural area occupied huge portion.
2. Is the stability in China humanity?
On July,7th this year, the minister of CCP (Chinese Communism Party) admit in at a news conference :"the incidents happened at rural area, we called it a mass incident,……..,our modernization and reform has been at critic period, this is the period that the average income of our citizen is at USD1,000 to USD3,000. At this period, some said it is Golden time in development, and also the time of contradiction(that is the word our government call social conflict). so, as the reform more deeply developing, some contradiction will appear concentratly(that is the way our government call frequently).
But how seriously is this so-called Mass Incident？ It was reported by Southern China Morning, a newspaper in Hong Kong, The Minister of Chinese Security Department said on a meeting held at Beijing, which, similar to US senator that the collective demonstration is about 74,000 times last year in compared with 10,000 at 1994. This is just from official source, the actual riot is obviously more than that figure.
A yearly 70,000 to 80,000 mass riot incident society was called coherence and stable society, realized under news block, internet block and crucial police and army crack down. With this kept in mind, the truth about China's stability is very clear.
Din Zhou massacre, an incident happen at Hebei Province, a province border with Beijing, Capital of China, has shock people in this world. Actually, the armed robbery of civil and oppress mass protesting with force from police, army and Mafia by government is a common phenomena in this "Erupt China".
It is ashes for those words about the stability in China, at least at Ding Zhou.
3.Is it possible for Chinese been protected by law?
The most shocked is that, in this series articles in TIME weekly, they told people great improvement happen on Human rights and religious issue in China, said that Chinese can criticize government openly, and protect ourselves with means of law.
This is all most a lie.
The case of internet writer Li japing (accused of defaming government by publish articles on internet), Pastor Chai Zhouhua and his wife (accused illegal business for print and distribute Bible with their own money), is the most newly and direct accusation for such a liar.
Since Tiananmen massacre in 1989, only in the case of China Democracy Party, its members was sentenced with long term in jail, total over hundreds years.
In may 25, 2005, Ge Lebin(pronunciation), an official from Asia movement of Amnesty International said, that human rights activists and civil activity sponsors will still be detention or arrested at home or jail at the government's will during any politically sensitive periods. Chinese government also oppresses Faun gong, underground Catholic organization, Xingjian and Tibet separations, and other spiritual and religious groups.
At its report "Global Human Rights, yearly report 2005" , Amnesty International said, that serious human right abuse is widely exist in China, tens of thousands people still jailed or detention by government, their basic human right was violated by government, and at highly dangerous under torture and in highly dangerous situation.
He said the thousand was executed with death penalty ,mostly after injustice trial.
Mass protest incurred by the forced immigration and land allocation by government is increasing.
Chinese government make use of the anti-terrorism war to make their oppression Uriq minority reasonable, and the religious freedom at Tibet and other area was strictly restricted.
Chinamen Liao Peishan(pronunciation), Hong Kong branch, Amnesty International point out, Chinese government use anti-government accusation and National Secret clause in its Criminal Law, and vaguely defined National Security to accuse peaceful activist and reform sponsor. Lawyers, reporters, and AIDS workers, and housing rights sponsor, ECT. , those people's life was disrupted or detention or jailed due to their actions on recording the situation of human right abuse, push reform or help those people with rights been abused.

There is 3,400 happened in China. We believe that the true figure is far more than this, should be about 10,000 every year.
Radio Free Asia reported, Execute Chairman Cooper of National News Club at Washington D.C emphasis at Attack on the Press, "There are 122 journalist was jailed last year, but only in China 42 was jailed, it is almost 1/3 of the figure". The New York Times' researcher, Chinese-American Zhao Yan, was accused of illegally release national secret to foreigners and been jailed till now. He reported at New York Time on the news the resignation of CCP chairman Jian Zeming in advance.
Our people think that 2004 is disappointed for those whom have high hope for the New CCP chairman Hu JingTao. Obviously, Time Magazine is try to influence the widely disappoint feeling from people, but you have no data to convince people.
Last week, China Information Industry Department said, until June 30, those website in China, whom have not yet registered with this government department's ICP/IP address information management system, will be temporarily closed, related ISP will stop its service to those website.
China news net said that about 1/4 website was temporarily closed due to this reason.
Asia News network said, according to the official statistic, there is total 669,000 website with .cn name, not included the other website name., such as .COM. This means that there are at least 170,000 website will be closed. This same department published an regulation this February, "his registration management regulation on non- business information service ".
This regulation said that all of the website must show its registration no. under middle bottom of its Homepage, and be linked with its registration management system., for public to verify. This regulation said that ISP should not host any unregistrated website, and in any case government said an website should be closed, ISP must close it without any delay. For any website violate this regulation, it will be fine as much as to RMB10,000( US1,200). This registration system covers all the website in China, commercial, government and individual.
The free speech situation is deteriorating, human rights in danger. It is ridiculous to talk about the improvement of human right situation in China.
Actually, the victim of human right in China is not only the dissidents and some brave reporters, due to the lack of freedom and law enforcement, ordinary Chinese living at terror all the time. The reported 10 misjudged case is just a corner on this Chinese human right Ice burger.
This case include Robbery, Stealth of Mr. Jingxian, Wife murder case of Mr. She xiangling, Rape and Murder case of Wang shuhong, Robbery case of Chen Guoqing in Chende, Hebei province, Murder case of Li Jiuming at Tangshan, rape case of Mr. Chen yanghong at Anyang, Henan province, Murder case of Qin Shuibin.,ect.
Apart from human right, How about the situation of Right of Survival in China? Scholar statistic said, the death figure is 13,6 person for very 100,000 Chinese people died at traffic , accident during work, and fire,death rate has increased from 4.4 person at 1979 to 10.6 person in 2003.
About the figure of abnormal death , Outlook Weekly published an article titled "The Social System under Testing at This Changing Time", released the abnormal death figure include the following: 1) 120,000 people died of tubercles， the figure died of blood fluke and AIDS is not listed; 2) 282,000 committed sucided. 3) 184 people died of poisonous food; expert estimated the actual poison victim figure should be 10 times more of this, and the death figure may not be accurate yet. 4) Safety accidents at work caused some 140,000 death yearly, 5) thousands of people died of natural disaster. 6) fire case some 200 billion RMB purport loss and 2300 death every year 7） about 70,000 died at various criminal cases. 8) traffic accident kill about 100,000 people 9) at least 10,000 died of death sentence.
It is estimated that more than 800,000 people died of abnormal death yearly.
Any of this case happen at any civil countries is a shame of state and should be condemned. I do not understand why it was praised as human rights progress in this disasters happening China.
This is an special racial discrimination, it told this world that our Chinese people's abnormal death due to police abuse force and power is God's way, and those cases for our Chinese is nothing to do with human rights.
Gentlmen, this should not be tolerance.
4.Is various elite within Chinese society fake?
It was said ,TIMES also interviewed with various elite in China, from industrialist to nationalists, from dissidents to officials whom listen to people's voice; from lawyers whom concern the guy's rights, writers, to movie makers,ect. Those sample elite's mind and action show to the US people the great change in China.
We have to also mention the May 9th Edition of News Weekly's report titled China's Century, it use 21 pages to make details report on this proudly changes. And it concluded that "the Erupt of China is not an estimate but a fact". It said that the most surprise sample of development happen at Shanghai. And it said" the development of China benefit this world tremendously, and especially to United State", it said"9% yearly increase during last 25 years, is the fast growth record for big economy state in human history. During this period, 300 million people live above poverty level, national income has increased 4 times" , and it said " no large scale social unrest happened until now. Chinese leader should be granted with high score for this historical achievement", it was said that Chinese is admired by other people, Indian official always said, "Chinese officials no need to worry about the vote population….."
I do not know whom is the dissident interviewed by Time, and how he show US people the proudly change in China. But as to my knowledge, " the elite of Chinese society " is not the samples of ordinary Chinese people. I know "the most surprise development sample is Shanghai" at China's Erupt, but Shanghai is not China. I known what kind of GDP static method and 9% growth is been used and arguing information always. Therefore the conclusion based on those information is in doubt.
I know how many people sink into poverty level again at the same time of 300 million people living about that standard, and how this 4 time GDP increase is distributed within its residents. And most of all, I know that "the admirable politic advantage in China" is unacceptable at any cases. It is politic crime in US and other western countries, and I would like to state that those crimes are still a crime in today's China.
It is necessary for western reader to read the following reference information for you to understand more about China:

Only some 5.1% get higher education average, and only1%-4% in west area. According to a investigation held at Qinhua University and Beijing University, two of the top Chinese university, only 1/5 students come from rural area. College and university education rate in Cities is 55 and 280 times difference in compared with city and rural residents.
(In contrast with the above figures, China declares at March this year, it will increase its military expenditure by 12.6% this year. The International Peace Research Institute at Stockholm published its yearly report on 2004 Global Military Expenditure shows the global military expenditure has reached the highest 100,000 million US after the end of cold war. US, China and India is among the fast growth countries. Professor Yu Mao Chun, US Navy Academy said, the actual military expenditure figure is 70% more than the published figure in China)
This fable story on China's Erupt is concentrated on the so-called China's economic miracle. But the no.1 question for such miracle is that it almost has nothing to do with ordinary Chinese people, in other words, most of our Chinese people living under the dark shadow of China's Erupt.
It is skeptical for those thought that there is no riot happen in China is evident for China's successful way. The reason is that we should not use temporary phonemenia as long term evident.
Actually, even at the so-called economy miracle in today's China, it can not be compared with Nazi Germay before world war II. For example the employment rate, in early 1933, is 33% while Hitler took power, at the end of that year, it decreased 1/3, and till 1938 only 1% un-employment. From 1933 to 1938, economy growth at 11% yearly, total 102% within 5 years, income doubled.
At that time, the whole western countries admired the miracle of Germany's Erupt, but this lesson given to this world is not to be forgotten.
Today it is still a short sighted and quick made world.
China is of course is not a country with invasion in its blood, but its political structure is surprise the same as Nazi Germany.
Therefore, if there is no such an economic success happen in China, and you create this fable story of China's Erupt, it is not honest.
And at the same time, provided that China have made some kind of economic development, it is no justice for you to comments such an Miracle with the overlooking of such an dictatorship country's dark politic.
5.Is environment contamination the must price for economic development?
It was told that this reports also criticized the environment problem in China.
It would be enough to understand what a price has been paid by just quote the official report.
The deputy Chief of China's environmental protection said, according to 2003 static, 90% of the rivers flow over cities has been seriously containment, about 300 million rural area population drink contaminated water, about 1/3 of the city population breath the seriously containment air.
My question is that, what's your standard for your praise given to Chinese government for its criminal style economic development, if you already admit that the economic growth is at the price of seriously contaminated environment? Is this an nationalist commentary or just an commercially selfish commentary?
This growth achieved at the cost of China's environment, its temporary beneficiary only is the Chinese politician and businessmen, but the whole country, our future generation and the whole world will have to pay their huge and terrible price for it.
Dear editors, we love our country with our own method, and I believe it is the same love as American love your country. No other people on this world is more than us to wish China's Erupt, especial we hope every Chinese can live an free and wealth life. But to realize this dream, we need to be honest but not bullshit.
About 100 years ago, a great Russia author said that I love our country and I do not want to lie to her. I believe this is also our moral standard we should apply today.
America is a great country, your people's liability taken for the justice on mankind has win widely respect.
But today, I want to tell you, that this China you told your people is not the China I am so familiar with. And this China today, is not an country entitled to be praised no matter for American, Asia people or the whole world.
In 1949, Mao Zedong told our Chinese, today you stand up. At that time, many people seconded that Voice.
During the last 50 years , there is 80 million our "stood up" Chinese encountered with abnormal death. Today, Jian Zeming and Hu Jingtao tell this world, China is Erupted, harmony and at its golden age, the international media include your honorable magazine seconded this voice.
But in this "Erupted" China, there is 200 million, equal to the total of US population, living under hungry and absolute poverty, about 800,000 people, equal to an middle size US city died, and tens of thousands people been jailed for their honest speak out their view on this government. And this government has also completely blocked the internet at this information time, and they are changing this whole country to be a place which is not suitable for human to live.This erupt china you called is absolutely an "information pig farm",this name is given by one of our ex- outspoken professor at Beijing University,whom now has been dismissed from his position.
Therefore, I would like to tell you at this place that most of our Chinese wish China's Erupt, but not yet at this moment.
We can not do evil to hurt ourselves in this evil world, but we do need to be confession and be saved in this evil world.
Please pray for China and I also willing to pray for you.
