Chinese Dissident Li Jianping is arrested

[ChinaEForum News] The Chinese government arrested the freelance writer Li Jianping who lives in Shandong Province and publishes on internet, acccusing that he slanders the the government. The news of the arrest was delievered by his wife Xuhui via email. Her cell phone, however, can not be reached. * Li is accused to spread instigating opinions in order to overturn the government
In the email, Xuhui said that Li Jianping was summoned to the police station on May 25 and demanded to hand in his passport for the reason that he spread instigating opinions on the internet in order to overturn the government. In the next morning, 5 officials from internet control committee, Zibo City arrived at Li Jianping's home and examined Li's computer. After the examination, they took Li Jianping away accusing that there were dirty images. On May 28 morning, Zhangdian district of Zibo City searched Li Jianping's home, detented him and took his computer, bank account documents, and drafts, as well as some foreign checks. They then searched his company for his drafts. On June 30, he was formally arrested. The reason was that he slanders the the government and that his writings overseas have resulted in damanges to the government. (boxun.com)
Li Jianping has written many articles at Boxun, Chinesenewsnet, ChinaEWeekly, Epoch Times to critisize the Chinese government. During the 1989 student movement, he was one of the sponsors the Independent Federation of Shanghaiese Universities. He now owned a medical equipment company in Shandong.
A staff at the detention center of Zibo city acknoeledged the fact of the arrest indirectly. He said, "Go ask his family members. It is inconvenient to tell you."
Li Jianping's wife Xuhui indicates that his company is not running well. After his arrest, it is facing the risk of bankruptcy. Their family almost exhausted all income sources. Li Jianping and his wife has a 3 years old daughter. His mother lives in his hometown.
Xuhui said that the procuratorate has been refusing his family members to visit him. She worries that the home phone and computer are all monitored. Therefore, she changed her email address and has to go to a internet-caffee to send/receive emails.
