Burma's Junta Resorts to His Fists Against Shan Politicians

After Taunggyi (Capital of Shan State) Meeting for Shan National Day on Feb 7,2005, the following Shan political leaders and members were detained (boxun.com)
without rules by the Burma's military regime:
- U Hkun Htun Oo (Chairman - Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD))
- U Sai Nyunt Lwin (Secretary - SNLD)
- Sai Hla Aung (Member- SNLD)
- Sa Tha Ut (Member- SNLD)
- General Hso Ten (Chairman - Shan State Peace Council (SSPC))
- Wei Htin Kyoe and his assistant(United Wa State Army's Taunggyi representative)
- U Shwe Ohn (Shan veteran politician)
- U Myint Than (New Generation - Shan State)
- U Nyunt Maung (New Generation - Shan State)
- U Ba Thin (New Generation - Shan State)
- U Tun Nyo (New Generation - Shan State)
- U Seng Taung (UNLD)
- U Kyaw Win -Intha (UNLD)
- U Thu Wai (Democracy Party chairman)
- Daw Cho Cho Kyaw Nyein of AFPFL and her daughter Ma Ohmar
Shan State Army £North (SSA-N) and Shan State National Army (SSNA), both under the supervision of SSPC, held emergency meeting , their fighters on
leave and those who are away, have been called back to prepare for war. Shan ceasefire representatives who arrived in Rangoon to attend the Convention
have returned to their headquarters in northern Shan State. Their leader, vice commandor Col Gaifah,went urgently to Yangon for the release of their
leaders.
The Director of Burma-Euro Office in Brussel, Sao Harn Yaunghwe ,Shan leader,(son of Sao Shwe Thaike, the First President of Union of Burma who
died in Ne-Win's jail after Ne-Win's coup in 1962) said sadly that the junta had let all our people realize again how lawless it is in Burma and
that the junta can never be trust .
The Paliamentary Democratic Party was established by Ex-Premier U Nu (passed away) in 1970.They have Liberation-Army at the Liberation-Area near
Thai-Burma border.
The PDP denounced the militarty junta to have seized power through coup and ruled the country with fascist dictatorship till now.The PDP believes in
that only by a determined unflinching struggle, Burma can regain the 2ND National Independence and Liberation.
"US Campaign for Burma" will hold on Feb 26 a conference at George Washington Univerity in Washington, DC.
The key-speaker Dr. Sein Win, Prime Minister of the National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma and the representatives of Karen and Shan
nationalities ,after reporting " the Destruction of Eastern Burma (Shan State,Karen State,Kaya State and Mon State), Rape and Internally Displaced
Persons", will also condemn the Burma's junta for his ruleless detaining political prisoners and the oppression against nationalities.
U.S.A., E.U., U.N., Asean, International Amnesty, Human Rights Organisation etc denounce the arrest of Shan community leaders and extension of Aung San
Suu Kyi and U Tin Oo's house arrest.They call on the junta to enter into a constructive dialogue with the Opposition. They point out that only when all
the opponents ,the absolute majority, take part in the constitution-drafting convention, the Union Constitution can be recognized and ligimitated by all
people of Burma and the international community.
The junta held elections in 1990, but refused to cede power when opposition leader Suu Kyi's party and the parties of nationalities won by a landslide.
Burma's junta is so extremely unpopular in Burma and the whole world: just like dirty rats scurrying across the street with everyone yelling "kill
them!".
The U.N. special envoy to Burma on Feb 22 accused Burma's junta of ignoring his efforts to bring about national reconciliation with the opposition led
by Aung San Suu Kyi and all ethnic forces. According to the United Nations, the International Labour Organisation visited Yangon on Feb 22 to
investigate Burma-junta's forced labour to the vast villagers. A Burmese court late last month admitted unprecedented that four Burmese officials
had forced villagers to work on a road project.
The ILO left Burma the next day because Than Shwe,the General No.1, said he was too busy to meet them.
106 elected people's representatives, leaders from political organizations, women organizations, youth organizations, and civic society institutions
from the Union of Burma declared few days ago"Statement by the Committee Representing People's Parliament",saying that we cannot expect the rights
of the nationalities can be discussed and resolved at the ongoing National Convention. For decades, the entire citizenry of Union of Burma has been
suffering under successive military dictatorial regimes because of the demise of democracy and the loss of equal rights for the Ethnic
Nationalities.
Hence, in establishing the Union in the future, it is imperative to lay down Union principles which take the wishes of all the nationalities into account
and which are backed by guarantees.
The Basic Principles are as follows:
1. Sovereign Power:
The sovereign power of the Union shall derive from the people.
2. Equality:
Every nationality in the Union shall enjoy equal political and ethnical rights.
3. Self-determination:
Every nationality shall fully enjoy the right to self-determination in political, economic, social, and cultural affairs.
4. Federal Principles:
The Union shall be established with states which fully enjoy the right to self-determination, and the Union Assembly shall be a bicameral
legislature consisting of a Chamber of Nationalities (Upper House) and Chamber of Deputy (Lower House).
5. Minority Rights:
All rights of National Minorities who reside in the member states of the Union shall be fully guaranteed by Constitution.
6. Democracy, Human Rights, and Gender Equality:
Discrimination based on religious belief, ethnicity, or gender shall not be permitted and fundamental human rights and democratic rights shall be protected and guaranteed by law.
7. Secular State:
The Union shall be a secular state.
8. Multi-party Democracy System:
The federal Union shall practice a multi-party democracy system.
