San Francisco Chapter of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition (OCDC) Officially Formed
Mu WenBin reports from San Francisco -- On October 25, 2009, the well-known leader of the Chinese democracy movement and chairman of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition (OCDC) Mr. Wei Jingsheng announced the official formation of the San Francisco Chapter of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition at a joint meeting of the democracy activists in San Francisco.
Since its official formation in 1998 under the leadership of its chairman, Wei Jingsheng, the OCDC has devoted itself to the democratic development and rights defending movements inside China, as well as to mobilizing democratic forces world wide and gaining respect and support from the international society.
The mission of the OCDC is to end the one-party dictatorship in China and establish a political system of democracy and freedom. The OCDC represents the fundamental interests of the Chinese people who have been exploited of their fundamental rights due to the one-party dictatorship of the Chinese Communist Party. It carries the historic mission to mobilize and organize the Chinese people as they strive for freedom.
The current OCDC chair is the well-known Chinese democracy leader, Mr. Wei Jingsheng. Ever since the 1978 Democracy Wall in Beijing, Wei has devoted himself to the Chinese democratic movement. He was put in prison for almost 18 years by the Chinese Communist regime. In 1997, he was sent in exile to the USA and subsequently formed the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition, in an effort to become the largest political opposition force and opposition party in China. In the last 11 years since the founding of the OCDC (with headquarters in Washington DC, USA), it has formed chapters in various regions and countries, including US West, US East, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, Scandinavia, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Guam, etc. The OCDC also has its secret and open members all over other countries and regions including Mainland China and Hong Kong.
In the past a decade, the OCDC has had its conferences in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada; New York, USA; Bonn, Germany; Washington DC, USA; Geneva, Switzerland; and Frankfurt, Germany. It will hold its next conference in early January of 2010 in Orlando, Florida, USA.
Those who attended the formation of the OCDC San Francisco chapter included democratic activists in the San Francisco Area: Ge Xun, Liu ShiXian, Guo BaoSheng, Mu Wenbin, Fu Hu, Huang QianQian, etc. Ge Xun was a leader of the Independent Federation of Chinese Students and Scholars in the USA. Guo BaoSheng was a 1990 student in the Philosophy Department of Chinese People's University and was in prison for 3.5 years due to his student and democracy movement activities after 1989, as well as the workers' movement in ShenZhen. Mu WenBin participated in the Hunan student movement in 1989 and helped to form the "Free China Association" in 1990, and was in prison for 5 years due to his participation in ShenZhen in 1994 for the founding of the "Nationality Democratic Party". Fu Hu was the vice president of the Sichuan Alliance. Huang QianQian is a representative from the Chinese Students Association in Thailand.
Wei Jingsheng stated that the San Francisco Bay area is an area with stronger Chinese Communist Party (CCP) forces. Thus it is important to form this OCDC SF Chapter to directly struggle with the CCP and bring the democracy movement in the Bay Area into a new era. He thinks that when the democracy movement is at low ebb, the various democratic forces must unite to keep a non-stop striving. Those who have participated in the democracy movement for years should show their leadership and use various ways to target the CCP's one-party dictatorship and to take various measures for a stronger pressure.
The San Francisco Chapter will send its representatives to next January's Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition conference in Florida.

2009年10月25日，中国民运著名领袖、中国民主运动海外联席会议主席魏京生先生在美国加州旧金山民运人士联席会议上宣布中国民主运动海外联席会议美国加州旧金山分部正式成立。
中国民主运动海外联席会议自1998年成立以来，在魏京生主席的领导下致力于中国国内民主与维权运动的发展，并在国际社会上得到了民主力量普遍的尊重和支持。其宗旨是在中国结束中共一党专制、建立民主自由政体。该组织代表被中共一党专制剥夺基本人权的中国人民的根本利益，担负着动员、组织人民大众为争取自由而斗争的历史使命。
中国民主运动海外联席会议现任主席为中国民运著名领袖魏京生先生。魏京生自1978年北京西单民主墙始致力于中国民主运动近31年，受中共专制政权逼迫入狱近十八年。1997年，在巨大的国际呼吁与压力下，魏京生被假释出狱并流亡美国组建了中国民主运动海外联席会议，致力于成为中国最大政治反对派和在野党。中国民主运动海外联席会议成立11年认来，以美国华盛顿为总部，先后在美东、美西、加拿大、法国、英国、德国、荷兰、北欧、日本、南韩、泰国、澳洲、新西兰、关岛等国家和地区分别成立了分部，并在包括中国大陆与香港的其它国家及地区有其公开和秘密的成员。
十多年来，联席会议已在加拿大的湖边的尼亚加拉村、美国的纽约、德国的波恩、美国首都华盛顿、瑞士日内瓦、及德国的法兰克福等地召开过会议。现定于2010年1月8日至10日于美国弗罗里达州奥兰多召开会议，
参加中国民主运动海外联席会议旧金山分部成立会议的除了魏京生先生外，与会的旧金山民运人士有葛洵、刘士贤、郭保胜、穆文斌、伏虎、黄茜茜（女）等人。其中葛洵是原全美中国学生学者自治联合会负责人之一；郭保胜是1990年中国人民大学哲学系学生、曾因参加八九后北京学生民主运动和深圳工人运动入狱三年半；穆文斌曾参加1989年“六四民运”湖南学生运动、1990年参与组建“自由中国会”、1994年在深圳因参与组建“民族民主党”入狱五年；伏虎是“巴蜀同盟会”副会长；黄茜茜是泰国泰华留学生协会代表。
魏京生表示，美国旧金山湾区是中共势力较强的地区，在旧金山湾区成立中国民主运动海外联席会议旧金山分部，直接在中共势力较强地区进行面对面斗争和较量至关重要，旧金山湾区的民运形势可望进入新时期。他认为，在目前中国民运低迷形势下，民运力量要团结合一，海外民运不能停，要坚持斗争，一些参与民运多年的人要做领头羊作用，要从各方面、采用各种措施对中共施加更强大的压力。
旧金山分部将派代表参与2010年1月在美国佛罗里达州举行的中国民主运动海外联席会议大会。
